Teaching staff in Florida worked mostly part time. About 80% of teachers taught part time, and 10% full time, from 2006 through 2010. Small percentages of volunteers also taught in adult education programs. While fluctuations were minor, in years where fewer part-time teachers were available, programs saw a slight increase in volunteers and vice versa. This change was more noticeable in 2011-12, a year in which fewer adult learners entered programs. These differences suggest that Florida programs may supplement part-time teaching staff with volunteers to continue to provide services under tight budget conditions.
