These figures are important because they point to the proportion of adults who complete a high school education outside the traditional high school experience, and because they estimate the extent to which the population of GED passers goes to college. More info:

Since many of the percentages from the 2003 and 2004 GED passer populations are similar, we report on the 2004 figures. GED passers enrolled in college within a median 15 months of testing (ranging from 1 to 80 months). Nearly 77% of GED passers chose to enroll in community colleges or other institutions offering postsecondary coursework of up to two years in length.
